Risk & Discipline

How Nova Makes Trading Safer

Nova is not a typical trading bot that fires orders at every signal. It is a disciplined execution engine that only acts on refined, scored opportunities — with multiple layers of risk controls built in.

The Problem

Most trading bots are built to execute fast — not to execute safely.

Many automated trading systems react directly to raw market indicators — an RSI crosses a threshold, a moving average intersects, volume spikes. They fire orders immediately without questioning the quality of the signal, the current risk exposure, or whether the opportunity has been validated.

The result is often overtrading, inconsistent position sizing, and no structured protection against cascading losses. Speed without discipline is not an advantage — it is a liability.

Our Architecture

Intelligence first. Execution second.

Nova sits downstream of the Signal Intelligence Engine. It only receives clean, validated signals — never raw market noise.

Risk controls at every layer.

Signal Validation

Every incoming signal is validated against a strict schema, checked for freshness, and verified for source authenticity via HMAC signature. Stale or malformed signals are rejected.

Confidence Gate

Signals below the configured confidence threshold are rejected before they reach the execution engine. The gate is configurable per account and per strategy.

Position Limits

Maximum concurrent positions and per-symbol exposure limits prevent overconcentration. Nova will not open a new position if limits are reached.

Daily Loss Stop

If daily losses exceed the configured threshold, Nova pauses trading automatically. This circuit breaker prevents cascading losses during adverse conditions.

Adaptive Sizing

Position sizes are computed dynamically using risk-adjusted methods. Regime-aware sizing reduces exposure during volatile periods and increases it during stable trends.

Execution Audit

Every signal received, every decision made, and every order placed is logged with timestamps, reasons, and outcomes. Full audit trail for review and improvement.

Automation is not about speed. It's about discipline.

Manual traders face a well-documented set of behavioral challenges: hesitation during high-conviction setups, emotional exits during drawdowns, inconsistent position sizing, and fatigue-driven errors during extended sessions.

Nova addresses these by executing the same refined signals with consistent rules — the same position size methodology, the same risk thresholds, the same exit logic — every time, regardless of market conditions or time of day.

The result is not faster trading. It is more consistent trading.

Trading involves risk of loss. Automated trading systems cannot eliminate market risk. Past performance does not guarantee future results. Nova by Horizon is a trading tool — not financial advice.
